What VPS characteristics are really important?

KirisaАKirisaА Member, Provider
I'm looking for a VPS for a fairly loaded application, and the deeper I dig, the more questions I have. Some say that the main thing is the CPU, others say that the speed of the NVMe disk is more important. How do you determine how much RAM you really need if there are background processes and API requests?

I was advised to look at hostpro.com, where, by the way, daily backups are included in the tariff, which was surprising because most providers charge for it separately. But in general, I want to understand: what do you focus on when choosing a VPS - the number of vCPUs, IOPS, disk stability, backups? Please share your experience.

    Hi

There are many factors that influence the choice of a VPS, for example, it is important to pay attention to the geographical location of the server, and it is also very important how technical support works and how quickly they can help you. However, if we are talking specifically about technical characteristics, then ideally take a server with completely good characteristics, it is important to have both a good processor and disk speed. However, in order to understand your request more, you need at least a little more information, but I can say that it is important that the processor is powerful and in addition there should be enough RAM in this case and then your server will work stably.

In case you're weighing your options for a high-performance VPS, I can share what’s worked for me. I’ve hosted multiple projects on hostpro.com and have had minimal downtime, plus they offer daily backups by default. That’s something I’ve come to rely on when testing updates or dealing with unexpected bugs. Their support is another highlight — real humans who respond quickly, no ticket ping-ponging like with some companies I tried before. I’ve asked for help with things like SSL setup and even email server configs, and always got clear answers. Though I use VPS, I’ve noticed they offer a full range of services including shared, WordPress, and cloud hosting. Depending on the project, their other plans might fit just as well.
  • Redundant data centers minimize downtime during failures. Look for hosts with multiple geographically dispersed centers. I am fully satisfied using GTHost.com vps hosting solutions (over 20 server locations to choose from). Secure, reliable, and packed with great features — perfect for any website!
